Roughing It – Saint-Antoine, France

Thanks to Pierre’s massive generosity, we are spending 3 amazing days in his beautiful house on the river at Saint-Antoine.  Pierre is a sailor, hitchhiker and vagabond himself, and fortunately a very good English speaker, so we have some great chats!

Saint-Antoine is the sort of place that looks, smells, and feels like paradise.   In the morning there is mist on the river, and the sweet smell of flowers and dew in the air.   The days are hot and cloudless, and the river water is cool, clear, and slightly salty.

We pick plums and apples in Pierre’s back yard orchard, and walk 15 minutes to the nearest village when we need groceries.
The sun shines all day, and the nights are mild.
Everywhere we go in the north of France, the locals tell us how bizarre the weather has been this autumn, because the region is normally very wet in September.   We aren’t complaining.

(…now this is what i call camping…)
