Q: Where to Blog?

image

Anna is setting off on an epic journey across Europe and Asia!  She asked me for some travel tips and some ideas on how to get started with blogging.

Anna:
“Hey!  Very cool to read everything.
I will start a trip in a few weeks, from Germany to Indonesia, overland, Southeast Europe, Romania, Turkey, Iran and India.
Do you have any recommendations or tips?
I have no detailed plan and no time limit.
Thanks.  Have a great day.
Love and light, Anna.”

Emmanuel:
“Wow Anna!  That’s an ambitious journey!  I have not traveled most of that territory!
I am currently roaming around Southern Asia.  I would like to go to Turkey and Eastern Europe sometime in the next 12 months.  Maybe we can meet on the way somewhere!
You have obviously got some idea what you are doing.  Have you read my ‘Pack Your Bag‘ page?  On a long trip like that, you want good, light equipment.
Also, take a look at my posts about hitchhiking in Europe and Asia. Hitchhiking is a great way to travel cheap and make friends!
If you want to save money on accommodation, take a tent with you and give urban camping a go.
Are you going to blog about your trip?  I want to read it!”

Anna:
“Our plans have changed a bit.  I will not enter Iran.  Maybe just go from Germany to Turkey and then fly to India, then Thailand
I feel I am not the best prepared, but never mind.
Yes!  Would be very nice to stay in contact with you.
Do you know where I can write a blog?
Have a sunny and good day!”

Emmanuel:
“Sunshine to you too, Anna!
The easiest way to make a blog is on Google’s ‘Blogger‘.  It’s easy to set up, free and has minimum advertising on it.
I use WordPress now, but I started on Blogger.  WordPress is great, but takes a bit more time to learn and set up.
You could even just make a dedicated Facebook page.
The great thing about blogging in the smart-phone era, is that you can do it all from a hand held device too. WordPress and Blogger both have useful phone apps. Smart phones are incredible travel tools!”

Anna:
“OK.  So that’s how you do it.  A separate page on Facebook.”

Emmanuel:
“I can’t wait to read about your journey.  If you need any more help setting up your blog, message me.  Send me the URL and I’ll link to your page.  Good luck!”
