Croc’s & Coconuts – Cedar Bay, Australia

image

We went out to Cedar Bay to visit my old mate Wilson the basketball.

It’s a 17 kilometre hike to Cedar Bay, through the national park. No roads. You get there by foot or on a boat.
This place is nice and quiet.
Shannon and I took about 8 hours to do the hike because we kept stopping to smoke and take pictures of weird fungus.

Hiking through the jungle is slow work when you’re in this sort of state.

As well as mushrooms, we also saw some exotic wildlife. There’s lots of animals out at Cedar Bay. There’s so many animals they sometimes occupy the same space. The picture below is of a bandicoot inside a python.

There are croc’s at Cedar Bay.

It’s a good idea to pay attention to the croc warning signs, because sometimes the croc’s like to occupy the same space as humans.
(As you can see, Wilson isn’t the only bit of flotsam to wash up on the beach, but it’s OK, because the croc’s put all the garbage in sacks for the park rangers to collect.)

I found a fishing spear on the bank of the croc infested river. It was like finding an Easter egg in an FPS game. To discourage croc’s from trying to occupy the same space as me while I fished I got nude. Unfortunately the fish must have been offended as well, because I was unable to approach them.

I tried using Shannon as bait too, but to no avail.

We made a lovely camp site under a huge tree.

There were lots of fresh coconuts on the trees all around us, and our diet was about 50% coconuts while we were out there. This ensured that we were well nourished, got plenty of exercise cracking them open with sharp rocks, and had regular bowel movements every 40 minutes.

Cedar Bay is very beautiful.

But don’t be fooled. The jungle is full of plants with vicious, man-stabbing thorns. Best to take a machete or a Whipper-Snipper with you. Or wear metal trousers. Whatever works.
