Bizarre Mating Rituals – Caen, France

We’re walking down the street in Caen, past the statue of Louis XIV proclaiming himself to be an “emporer of Rome”, when suddenly there is a wild blaring of car horns, and thumping dance music!   It’s another wedding party off to the chapel!
All the girls hang out the windows and sunroofs of the vehicles and gyrate wildly, and the young men scream out what sounds like football anthems at the top of their lungs.   Just as we recover from the shock, the lights change and the whole convoy races away with a squeal of tires, the young women hanging on for dear life as the drivers swerve around the next corner and out of sight.
This sort of nuptial frenzy is repeated every half hour or so all Saturday in the centre of Caen, and the locals applaud enthusiastically as each car load roars past.
