Outback Australia is pretty sparsely populated.   The people you do meet are colourful characters: stoic, steadfast and sunburnt; shaped by the harsh landscape and climate.

There’s always a few city folk doing the tourist thing in the outback, too.  You can tell who the out-of-towners are by how clean they look.  If you go outback, try to remember to dress like the locals and blend in.
