My friend Tania is a person of many talents: traveler, mother, community facilitator, revolutionary, life coach, and, it turns out, she makes fantastic scones.
Here’s the recipe.
Combine flour and soft butter in a bowl. Rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles bread crumbs.
Add a little bit of salt, and a little bit of sugar.
Make a well in the centre of the mix, and gradually, add milk, until you have a nice firm, soft dough.
Roll the mixture into little balls, about the size of big walnuts.
Place the balls of dough in a flying pan, which is lightly dusted with flour. Cover the frying pan with a saucepan lid.
Place the frying pan on hot coals beside the camp fire.
Cook the scones for 10 – 15 minutes, or until golden and firm on top.
Eat the scones fast, with butter and jam.
Prostrate yourself before Tania, and say a prayer of gratitude.
